Cast:Needed: 4 women: CHARLEMAINE (24 yrs. old), MADGE (a young 40 yrs. old), Charlemaine's mother but looks more like a sister, BIT (78 yrs. old) Madge's mother [played by a younger woman due to the physical demands], and SYL (28 yrs. old) the next door neighbor, a stage-manager/massage therapist. |
Setting:1 set: the living room of a suburban home on a hill in Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas. The living room is also being used as Charlemaine's bedroom and a storage unit for theatrical equipment. There's also a doggie door that grandma gets stuck inside, and a closet door that spills out an avalanche of closet junk. |
| Length: 74 pages, act one lasting approximately an hour, and act two lasting approximately thirty minutes. |
| The gist: When Madge comes home from her breakfast shift at Burger King, she finds her house turned upside down. Her live-at-home 24 year old daughter, Charlemaine, experiences an internal revelation while having a full body massage and realizes she's on the wrong path for happiness. As she tries to right her path, Madge insists that Charlemaine discovers her grandmother's happiness before worrying about her own, and their home of three generations of women turns into an "afflictionary fable" of how to find true bliss. A zany comedy. |
