ADAM & EVELYN

The gist:

Adam is starting 7th grade; his parents are hoping that he will come out of his book worm shell. One Saturday, his father insists that Adam accompany him in a game of golf. Fighting boredom, Adam gladly volunteers to chase after a lost ball into the woods.  What he finds instead, in the distance, is gospel music. As he is drawn to the music, and later to Evelyn, the sixty year old African American woman who directs the church choir, Adam finally blossoms and comes out of his shell. Even more so at a Christmas concert at Evelyn's church, Adam's formerly introverted shy self is no more and new found gifts are discovered. When Adam's parents object to his new found life, Adam must either stand up for self-identity and extended family values or return to his old life living in books. Part coming of age, part musical, part family drama.
